Product features *Initial A with David and Companion Musicians* (probably 1170s), an illumination from the Stammheim Missal, one of the great surviving manuscripts of medieval Germany. The image places King David and his musicians within a richly interlaced letterform, where brilliant colour, gold, curling foliage, and compact narrative scenes turn sacred text into an intricate visual world. The design preserves the illumination’s jewel-like density and rhythmic movement, celebrating the astonishing craftsmanship of a manuscript painted and written by hand at the monastery of Saint Michael in Hildesheim. Housed in the J. Paul Getty Museum, presented in a refined design as part of the Art Movements Collection.
