DESCRIPTION
Product features Cranes (Tsuru) from Momoyogusa (Flowers of a Hundred Worlds, 1909–10) by Kamisaka Sekka, the Kyoto designer regarded as the last major exponent of the Rinpa tradition. Three red-crowned cranes emerge from dense pine branches, their white bodies, long black necks, and vivid crowns arranged against an atmospheric landscape. Sekka reduces nature to broad areas of colour, elegant contours, and expressive negative space, giving the birds a monumental calm despite the intimacy of the original folding-book format. Cranes and evergreen pine both carry associations of longevity and good fortune in Japanese art, deepening the composition’s quiet sense of endurance. Housed in the Cleveland Museum of Art, presented in a refined design as part of the Ukiyo-E Collection.
